Georgia-Pacific is seeking anAssistant Superintendent in Utilities (Optimizer)to join our team in Brewton, Alabama. This position will report to the Utilities Production Leader and coordinate closely with the asset availability leader, gatekeeper, coaches and reliability/maintenance to ensure equipment reliability and effective spending.

The successful candidate will have leadership responsibility for the safe and environmentally compliant operation of two (2) 900# gas fired boilers, a 1500# recovery boiler, an evaporator train, three (3) electrical power generation turbines, mill water plant, demin water plant, waste water, compressed air complex, natural gas system, and boiler feed water systems.


The Brewton facility is an integrated pulp/paper mill that produces products for two different business segments. It is located in south central Alabama about an hour from Mobile, Alabama, and Pensacola, Florida and the beautiful beaches of the Gulf Coast.

A Day In The Life Typically Includes:

  • Provide leadership through the application of Market Based Management to achieve superior results
  • Facilitate a culture of safety and environmental excellence through critical hazard identification, risk reduction, and risk mitigation
  • Develop sustainable process working with the unit coaches/supervisors to mentor and develop employees
  • Provide operational/business leadership and technical support (e.g. mass, heat, and energy balances) for the manufacturing process of the area and facilitate troubleshooting and problem solving to achieve goals
  • Lead teams in the identification, development, evaluation and implementation of safety, quality and/or cost reduction initiatives and projects that add the highest value to the operation to drive continuous improvement
  • Develop and support the effective use of procedures in order to promote a safe and reliable operation
  • Optimize and coordinate planning for scheduled shutdowns, operator training, and maintenance or capital projects
  • Support a robust 5-year planning process to make step change improvements in the OBC and strategic capital projects to make step change improvements in the eight elements of Operations Excellence (OPEX)
  • Develop skills and knowledge to cover for Area Leader in his absence

What You Will Need:


Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelors of Science Degree
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience working with the recovery processes
  • Experience in developing and implementing improvement processes and projects
  • Experience using Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and Outlook

What Will Put You Ahead?


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's of Science Degree in Engineering
  • Five (5) years or more experience with recovery and power processes
  • Three (3) years of prior leadership and facilitator skills, proven understanding of an integrated Utility Department (i.e. water treatment thru boiler operations, liquor management cycle and evaporation, recovery process, and electrical generation)
  • Experience working in a Process Safety Management (PSM) covered facility
  • Basic process control experience

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
